Title: Santa Catalina
Post by: Chuckles_the_Clown2 on March 05, 2005, 04:56:20 PM
wow, Snack is getting some serious early play.

4-1 and 9-2 on the speedballs.

It probably isn\'t just early money.  Snack is 2nd shortest pick 3 and 3rd shortest double.

The GP Handicap looks like the better betting race to me.  Zakocity has paired up \"0\"\'s and has good tactical speed.  Can sit just off of either Kennel UP or Classic Endeavor.

Boxing Zakocity with Contante and Eddington and taking 8-1 on a horse who is just a tad slower than Eddington.

i\'m taking contante. should get a perfect rail trip breaking from post three. have to box with eddi. i like CE, but 2-1 from post 8 is a bit low.

My Picks for the heck of it:

Santa Catalina: #5 Going Wild #5-2-6
GP Hcp #8 Classic Endevor #8-7-1-2

Snack has everything right about him for the circumstances. I don\'t know what the track is doing though. I\'m comtemplating taking him though.

Then again I may just watch. This is a GREAT race for sorting these out.

I think Spanish is gonna be on a contested lead to Going Wild and DeClans working it close and Snack making a late move if hes ready. (I think he will be) Theres just not enough value here and I\"m gonna watch..but what a great race.

I think Spanish Chestnut gets away from them all.  Looking for him to move forward big.

good luck

no money to be made, but i love this horse. 3w/3w in 1:42.4 not bad. i don\'t see anybody close.

That will be the last time DeClan\'s Moon beats Going Wild.....party is over.

Great Race.

ctc,
yes, you are correct. after watching declan jog around the track like that, lucas won\'t try another exercise in futility. he will stay way from declan...... declan is bred to run for miles, its scary.

Considering the trainer admitted that Declan wasn\'t 100% coming in, this was a pretty good comeback effort. I came pretty close to taking Going Wild at this price, but fortunately I passed. I was a little surprised that Going Wild made no attempt for the lead.

now for the bad news, snack broke his leg in a few places.

lol i\'d watch again Class...Going Wild had a Derby Type trip in some respects....he got between styles and is gonna be a handful next time at 9 marks and then beyond. DeClans is a professional, maybe they\'ll be better odds to beat him at next time.

DeClans will never win again. Guaranteed.

ctc,
OJ will find the real killers before GW runs a fast race beyond 9f.

GW got as perfect a trip as is possible (other than perhaps a loose lead in a slow pace) and he couldn\'t beat Declan today.

I understand that versatility is a good thing long run though.

Personally, I thought Declan might be slightly vulnerable today because he wouldn\'t be 100% unless the trainer is an idiot. From here, he\'s only going to get better. That leaves 10F and how much he develops from here relative to the rest of the crop as the question marks. He certainly did nothing wrong today.

CTC,

LOL????

You saw something you didn\'t like about Declan\'s performance today.

What\'s not to like?

It\'s a matter of whether he moves forward, how much, and can he get 10F, but he did nothing wrong today. He rated nicely. Won easily and wasn\'t 100%.

i\'m not so sure i like my 32-1 derby future on high fly. bandini ran just a fast, and was closing well. still, 1:49.7 not too bad.
undecided on this guy.

32-1 is a nice price Michael, but High Fly got a nice trip and he did not look good to me in the stretch.  Bandini was under the whip on the far turn and I thought he would be done, but he was actually closing on High Fly.

By the way, anybody notice the money come in after the race started on High Fly.  210,000 added into the win pool after the gate opened, High Fly went from 8-5 to even money.

I don\'t know why they don\'t just close the pools one minute sooner, so even the \"appearance\" of cheating doesn\'t exist.

He did ok. He\'s a professional. The truth is theres no real standout yet. It certainly isn\'t High Fly. This is looking to be a tough year to pick a Derby Winner.

In the Catalina the lone closer killed himself and Going Wild was compromised multiple lengths and never gave up running. If these two stay healthy, at least between each other, I\'m confident Moony is gonna have to drop back into California after the TC to find a win.

you probably already picked this up, but they said on the ABC telecast that they had been pouring a ton of water on the track for an hour prior to the race.

jim,
i dumped a bunch late, 2-1 was just too kind. others probably felt the same way. after watching the replay, i\'m neutral at best on HF. he wasn\'t real strong in the stretch. the one positive, however, is that the horse is able to make his own pace. we all know how important that is in a 20 horse field.

Michael-- I had the sound off. I would hope my trackman noted that, and with horses like these it\'s pretty easy to work it out regardless. But thanks for the info.
