On 3:
Looked to me as if Gutierrez tried to duplicate American Pharaoh\'s run last year in similar conditions:  gun to front, relax, finish.  For whatever reason, Nyquist wouldn\'t relax.  I read somewhere that these were trainer instructions, to avoid traffic.  Given the toll of the first half mile, he ran a gutsy stretch.  But there\'s no doubt that he\'s no American Pharaoh--not as fast and not as tractable.

Gave wicked sustained run on fast track in San Felipe too, just mistimed > flattened out.

Sad that AP will never face Shared Belief.  I would have loved to see that race.

The Sun article quotes a surprisingly diplomatic Bobby Frankel about Funny Cide\'s workout, in which he evidently ran off.  I seems to remember his real response:  that horse is toast. (with earthier language).

Big difference:  not just 3 seconds, but also AP tractable, eager and wanting to do more but pretty much always doing what his rider asks.

In Summation isn\'t the only parent.  Look at his bottom side.  Lots of stamina influences.  I have 3 words for you:  Bold Ruler, Secretariat.

When I saw CC\'s workout before the Belmont, I thought then that I was seeing a drained horse, because his poverty crease was so pronounced.  Then everyone started raving about the work, and about his condition and weight gain, and I thought \"What do I know?\"  Still, I almost had the trifecta:  I picked Tonalist, Medal Count, and Wicked Strong (my order).

Verrazano came out of the race with a gash on his hock, no doubt well earned when he backed up and drifted out into the rallying Will Take Charge at about the 3/16 pole.  WTC nearly went down.  I would be surprised to see Verrazano back anytime soon, if ever.
