Last year Wesley Ward ran a grass filly in a 2X who out of nowhere had run a 4 at KD. Was all speed and a repeat made her look like a cinch. She was Even Money. I singled her in the Pick 3. She was Even Money on the Load and 1-5 by the time they hit the 1st Turn. Then 2-5 on the backstretch. I mean they only had another 45 seconds before horses are crossing the finish line so when does the wagering stop......
Speaking of Keeneland what a great time of the year to be there with the cooling weather and the leaves turning orange and brown. Saratoga is beautiful and in a different way so is DelMar.
What makes Keeneland so different is for example as a young 20 year old college student one was there on a Thursday 10 days before Derby (whatever it was back then). Probably cut a couple of Classes to be there. And I\'m watching Alydar Romp by 15 in the Blue Grass. As you look out beyond into the hinterland you see the White Fences of Calumet and say \"he was born right there\".
For many of these Babies they are coming back home. The Pletcher 2YO Filly Tommy Jo may have stopped off at Spendthrift for a romp in the old play pen before they vanned her over the 3.5 miles from Russell Cave road to Keeneland. By Farm Sire Into Mischief this one is about as homebred and \"one of ours\" as it gets. Thorpedo Anna was born right there in the neighborhood. The Lady Owner approached McPeek \"can you help me sell her\" and Magdalena gathers a Syndicate for $40K. She wins Horse of the Year and millions of dollars and on Sunday she comes back home again. Churchill Downs isn\'t home. Keeneland is home. There are a lot of good babies running at Keeneland this weekend. Pletcher in particular is loaded.
The land of hopes and dreams is about to begin. Right there where many of them were born. And no more than 50 yards from where many of them were sold. There are some future Grade One winners out there. Just gotta find them. Good Luck everyone!!!
