It appears that Greeley\'s Galaxy will run in the Derby now with the defection of General John B.

Good News, I\'m glad hes in. His work yesterday did not sound inspiring but even if hes not a 10 mark horse, he\'s one I wanted to see get in from a betting perspective.

Speaking of 10 mark horses:

McGaughey said (Of Survivalist): \"I\'m not sure he wants to run a mile and a quarter. He finished second going a mile and an eighth, but it wasn\'t like he was flying at the end.\'

No Shug, you\'re certainly right, he was not flying at the end and he did not fly early either. He closed into a horse running an extrapolated final fraction of over 28 seconds with a slipped saddle.

You never know, Survivalist may win the Jim Dandy and Travers, but he is a Danzig over a Mr. Prospector mare and for the life of me I can\'t understand why it took so long to conclude this horse wants to one turn mile.

Chuck

Greeleys Galaxy worked a crawling slow mile
on March 31st at Santa Anita in 142.60 nine days before his excellent Illinois Derby. He might bounce to the moon in the Derby, but I don\'t think you can judge him based on his slow mile at Churchill.

From What I read his earlier fractions were good, both Rider and Horse got tired at the end as the way it was portrayed.

If a horse trains slow at Churchill, he\'ll usually run the same. The track is cuppy. I\'m looking for horses that have run well over the surface and train fast...1/8th in a steady 12 seconds.

How many horses actually train a mile before a race these days? I think this was a Stute stunt cause the horse really did well earlier.

interesting theory...

Why would dogging it be to his advantage at all? Its not like he\'s gonna be one of the lower priced favorites. Hes certainly not gonna try to wire them.

NC Tony,

I hate to agree with Chuckles (there\'s a first time for everything).

What possible reason could Stute have for screwing up the workout?  Nobody tries to get a better price on their horse in the Derby by screwing up.  Betting is very irrelevant to Derby trainers/owners.  A 10k claimer on a Thursday at Philly Park, maybe, but not the Derby.

Why Work A so Called Mile? isn\'t the workout the \'Clockers\" interpertation of what happened? Could it realy ave been a 6F workout with a pullup at the end?

When was the last time you saw a mile workout before the derby? What\'s this about sneaking in an extra quarter?

I don\'t know for certain it all just sounds weird to me. Sounds like ot was fast early and was used to put foundation on the horse. I believe the Old time trainer has his ways unlike waht we typically see today.

I think this one belongs with this group and hope the value is there come derby day. He may not win but looking to put him in the exotics.
