Early thoughts on Derby prospects

 Curious to hear thoughts on Derby prospects.Any and all would be most
welcome and most appreciated.Is War Pass this good? Asmussen testing
his baby in the morning with the \"big horse\"?

Where are all the opinions?? Too early?? Zito\'s WP?,Asmussen\'s Pyro? Anything?
I must say I\'m a bit surprised at the response.Nobody has an opinion on this
years group? Hmmm..

I like Asmussen\'s other horse, that won the Lecomte. I won\'t have any other opinions until the windows open in the futures next week.

I thought Plech\'s \"Sleuse\" ran a credible race yesterday. Certainly an effort big enough that it could be considered a \"cornerstone\".  I was not enamored with his trip at Churchill Downs previously though and in no way is this to be considered a \"buy recommendation\". He is one to watch and consider next time, especially if he runs at Hallandale.

Etched training in Dubai(usually bad news) but this horse has size, breeding, and a nice turn of foot.Normal development/soundness makes this one very dangerous, imo.

Dear Miff,

I am curious why you view size as a factor in a horse being a potential derby horse.    Trainers have often told me that they prefer large horses to smaller horses, but none have been able to give me an explanation for this preference that i have been able to understand.  Maybe you can help.  Also, thank you for previosly providing responses to my queries.

A big, athletic, fast horse is always preferable to a small, athletic, fast horse,imo but I believe you would get varying opinions from different horsemen.

Thats why theres no 7 footers bringing the ball up court in the NBA. Big and Athletic don\'t walk hand in hand. The big ones generally can\'t even stay glued together. Remember Bellamy Road?...what a klutz...moved like a spastic, but they said he covered ground. He did...like Rodney Dangerfield running from a tough crowd.

I\'m trying to remember even one massive horse that was nimble and I really can\'t come up with one.

Hallandale is not as quick today so far....Donn is getting more interesting

Big does not mean massive. Check the great ones over the years and most had size.

lol...huge he was but quick?......he won at all distances.

Track is speeding up....quality is better but the last couple show the track is quick

That\'s the point...he was quick enough to sprint...I\'m saying this from memory, but I don\'t think he came from out of the clouds sprinting.  He had natural speed and he obviously could stay.
