Bit:

As to Larry Jones, I would imagine that it was easier for him to get stalls at
Delaware than NY or NJ. Just a guess. As to running in the Cotillion rather
than the Gazelle, LJ was probably seeking a softer spot, and that did not work
out as planned.

How many horses racing and stabling at Philly and Delaware will factor in the
big races at the end of the year?

I do not think that the number of graded races run at Del or Philly has
significantly increased. I would like to see handle statistics to determine if
the national handle on Philly and Del has increased along with the purses.

Once again I will \"date\" myself by mentioning that about 25-30 years ago I
remember Delaware being, in a small way, the Saratoga of the Maryland circuit.
None of the major Maryland tracks would be open during the summer months and
the top Maryland trainers (Leatherbury, Dutrow, Alfano, Delp, etc) would bring
their big horses in for the summer stakes races.
