One of the greatest cheaters of all time is exactly as you suggest...a loner, trusts nobody, and whip smart. Like the most successful gamblers, he kept his own counsel and took his own satisfaction. Not many guys can fit the mold. They wanna tell somebody how smart they are. But the sociopaths are not like this.

I like Andy Beyer, because he is a tremendously gifted writer and his heart is in the right place. But Andy is basically a gambler and not a horseman, and because of this, he will never be able to separate the legitimate trainers from the crooks.

I\'ve had a lot of experience with Marty Wolfson and I think the reasons he is such a great trainer are that a) he is an animal person, b) he understands athletics, c) he thinks out of the box and d) racing is quite simply his entire life. And he plays the game better than almost any other trainer.

Same goes for Allen Jerkens.

I for one would be stunned to find out that Marty was a cheater.

Barry-- without attaching any conclusions, I will point out that both those gentlemen have periods where most or all their horses jump way forward, and periods where none do. Jerkens has had some monster jump-up this Gulfstream meet. I was recently asked to send sheets for two of them by someone in an important industry body.
