Macho Again

How in God\'s green earth has Macho Again won over $1.5m and 3 graded stakes races, including a G1, without ever running a negative number?

That seems impossible, especially considering the fact that he\'s a deep closer that loses alot of ground coming around the turn in every race.

The numbers would suggest he has absolutely no shot in this thing as the 3rd choice but that seems to be the case with him in all of his races this year and he keeps placing better than I expect.

If someone wanted to take a stand against Rachael (which I am not anxious to do), the longest shot on the board will have just as much chance as the 2nd choice on the board on Sat so the possibility of massive multi-race payouts exist but unless Borel allows himself to get seriously race ridden or caught up in some kind of insane fractions, I just don\'t see it happening.

Very lucky with the weights. He got 6 lbs from Kodiak in the Derby Trial, 6 lbs from Pyro in the JDandy, and 5 and 7 lbs from AB and Einstein in the SFoster.

given that he\'s equal weight on Sat and giving the big filly 8 pds, I think his number is up.

He will take alot of money underneath RA based on his wins this year and the whole West Point gang sending it in on him in the exotics so tossing him creates whatever value there is in the race

Tough older horses will carry their speed just a little longer than good speedy 3yos.  Referencing RA\'s race in the Preakness, where she was getting late after pressing and being pressed by a fast 3yo, there\'s a chance they will take some starch out of the filly in this race.  If there are pieces to pick up late, Macho Again is the best bet to do it, numbers or no numbers.  This horse may not be the fastest, but he also does not quit.

For my part I would rather own a no-number horse that\'s won $1.5 mill than some of the speedballs I\'ve raced in the past.

Macho has thrown in some clunkers.  

He was awful in last year\'s Travers and The Sunshine Millions this year.  

As Mike D rightfully points out, he runs well when he gets the weight which he isn\'t getting this time.

Couldn\'t agree with you more about owning him with no numbers compared to some of the faster horses I have been a part of that never got it done!

I thought he had quite a bit of traffic trouble in stretch of the \'08 Travers, if I recall correctly.

one of Alan\'s tenets is if you like a horse at a price that doesn\'t quite get there, make sure you revisit the issue next time around.

RK showed a real affinity for the syn last time and has been training great for this.

If a big time pace dual develops, it could be Richard\'s Kid and not Awesome Gem that picks up the pieces, at least underneath for a price.

I am very anxious to see what kind of number he ran last time, i.e. if he was able to run back to the 1\'s that he had on the dirt in Maryland!

He did get bounced around in the stretch there but that is going to happen more often than not to a tiny little horse (which he is) in big fields
