The televised Derby coverage was excellent despite the usual number of \"Hollywood weepie\" angles...assured interviews by most, especially Laffit Jr...Gary and Donna eliminating Hansen pre-race...Gutierrez post-race...I even went for the Phyllis Wyeth story and the rather obscene amount of spare change she dropped buying back Union Rags...but the segment that pushed the coverage into award-earning status was the segment on Kendall(call me \'Doctor\') Hansen.
Runaway ego with no outrider...the nightmare aspects of a trainer dealing with a butt-in owner...as seat-squirming as an episode of \"The Office\"...allowing that he put himself through med-school on his handicapping as if he never lost a race...whining like a baby when Hansen\'s tail wasn\'t painted blue for the Bluegrass...bimbo\'s on each arm...allowing himself to be filmed without any chance at redemption.
There can only be a salacious ending to this story...perhaps a ponzi scheme, a suspicious disappearance, or a wronged lover...Hansen running in bottom-level claimers on the leaky roof circuit...America, stay tuned to this one.
