in case anyone was wondering why j velazquez has a higher ROI than c decarlo, take a look at race 8 from Tam today. i liked the pletcher horse from post 1 because i thought JR would save some ground while still getting the jump on the other closers. ml on SV was 4-1, but i figured because JR was aboard the odds would be closer to 5-2. well, JR stayed home, and decarlo got the ride. despite a 24.4 and 50.3 pace over the firm turf, decarlo wrangled SV way to the back, ran a few wide around the first turn, and ran about five wide the rest of way, and then rallied through the stretch. right before SV was going to run by and win, the winner swerved out, causing decarlo to lose all momentum. no contact, no foul.. i guess, so SV gets second. but you know what is great, nobody had to settle for the bad odds on JR, because you got a generous 4-1 with decarlo up.
