Shockwave Rules in KY

Anyone out there know what they are? Curious as Nyquist\'s trainer has been linked to this before and Nyquist himself was subjected to this treatment back in September of his 2yo year. How would we know if it was peformed?

Kentucky Horse Racing Commission does not require treatment reports,however Dr. Mary Scollay(KHRC Equine Medical Director)is a friend and protector of players.Suggest you contact her @ KHRC if you want clarification, sure she will be as forthcoming as possible.

Some venues require reporting and posting of eswt and require a 14 day period afterwards before entering a race.

Thanks, was reading an article that stated shockwave therapy was performed on I\'ll Have Another 10 days before the Derby. Initial thinking is that if the procedure is performed at all the wagering public should be informed.

Most horsemen diabolically opposed to disclosing horses medical records/treatment.They hide behind the claiming game as an excuse.

Racing officials have difficulty with transparency issues. Ten Billion $ being wagered and we have to guess or jump thru hoops for info.

I saw I\'ll Have Another on the Hollywood vets list back in 2012 for this and called them.  I left 3 messages over 4 days and never got a reply.  I also called Doug O\'neill on his cell phone that year and left a message inquiring about the therapy.  Got no reply, which did not surprise me.  Perhaps you will do better in KY, but I wish you luck.

The stable is a fan of this therapy in general.  My assumption would be that if the rules are different in KY and that makes a difference they would have shipped back to CA after the FL Derby.  So I regard this as probably a non-issue.

KY shockwave rules: all treatments must be reported by administering vet.  There is a 10-day pre-race withdrawal period.

According to a 2012 Bloodhorse article regarding I\'ll Have Another\'s shockwave treatment, O\'Neill said he has used it a few times on horses, it is expensive, assists in circulating blood, and cannot be used within 10 days of a race in California. I know Doug and he is a creature of habit and will probably wear the same underwear that he had on for the Derby in 2012.

Does it have to be the vet? Shockwave is performed by Physical Therapists all the time, this barn happens to currently travel with an equine Physical Therapist so how would we really know?
