As the only one (I believe, oh and Kevb) that touted Lani prior to the derby. I am very familiar with his trip in that race.
After watching the race too many times, it is my opinion that Lani wasn\'t 10-12 wide until half way through the last turn. Prior to that he was only hmm in the 4 or 5 path. If it had been golf he would have been assessed a two stroke penalty. Maryland might suit him, wasn\'t it Pimlico that a horse ran outside of a starting gate, disappearing from sight and still reappeared to win or hit the board? >>>>
Wide TripCouple that with his propensity to walk out of the starting gate and you have a horse better suited to one of the Two Mile Stakes Races in Tokyo or Australia.
I\'m convinced the horse has a burst, as the article references, but until he learns to get out of the gate and save some ground he has no chance. Then there is the issue of he only runs when he wants to?
Maybe the Belmont but the Preakness? Price s/b generous and we\'ve seen stranger things.
