yes, early entries include Commentator and Eddington as well. 1st major stake on the new 9 mark oval?.........what is the hal\'s hope a 9 mark race..must be.

yes, 9 marks....Gulfstream has a new site with an interesting stakes info page under the \"Horsemen\" tab. They have some strange speed figures there. I\'m really not sure what I\'m looking at here. Certainly not Beyers. I don\'t think its Bris. What is it?:

Now that I\'ve trashed Zito I figure Commentator should win by about 20 lengths. :-)

Actually, I\'m sort of high on Badge of Silver at the middle distances if they can hold him together. I thought he ran very well against that very contested pace when Lion Tamer picked up the pieces. The pace figure did not come back especially fast, but I still think the middle part of the race was very hot and took a toll on everyone that was in the mix. I thought Badge of Silver ran best that day. Unfortunately for him, it looks like there will be a lot of speed in this race too.

I guess we\'ll have to wait to see who  actually runs.

Badge had the look of a serious racehorse in \'03 didnt he? It almost looked like they dropped him in for a sprint in April of his two year old year and then said \"O.K. this horse has some ability lets save him\". Subsequent you have to think he\'s pretty ouchy. Theres too many gaps to explain. I don\'t know if Ramsey has had him all along but he apparently does now according to this \"Equibase\" data. These are equibase speed figures...lol)

Now of course with Badge you have the \"Frankel Factor\" Badge demonstrated enough as a young 3 yr old to make you think a quality 9 marks was in his range and he certainly did look like he was ready to run on again in that Cigar Mile. He\'s a horse to reckon with if he runs.  Add Frankel to the equation and the question is what sum do you get? I think this horse was handled by Asmussen earlier and he\'s a suspect too, so I\'m not sure how far Frankel can move him on \"medicine\". I really don\'t know what kind of horse Commentator is. He sure handled Eurosilver and Weiglia didn\'t he? I need to wait on other figures for the race.

Badge has been a Ramsey horse all along....used to be trained by Ronny Werner I believe, and was transfered to Frankel in 2004. This is not uncommon, just look at Ten Cents a Shine (running in the grass feature at Gulf on Monday). Lukas used to have him before being given to the almighty Frankel. I don\'t know, maybe Ramsey likes to have his top 2yo/3yo trained by some speed trainer until after the triple crown run, when they are subsequently transfered to Frankel.

Looks like a pretty interesting race either way, I am curious about that new surface. Happy New Year and Good luck to all in 2005!!!

No, they didn\'t lay Badge off by choice. He suffered fractured bones in the first two layoffs. He\'d never make it through a metal detector. lol

Sorry to say, but I keep waiting for him to break down on the track.....

BTW: a couple years ago the Werner/Ramsey duo were 9 or 10 for 10 for 2yo\'s going down and  returning to the farm for extended vacations. Lukas and Baffy are nice guys by comparison....

Yea, that the thing with BOS. He showed a lot of promise until he got hurt badly. That\'s why I am simultaneously high on him and skeptical they will hold him together. He came back pretty good, but how long will he last?
