Anyone hear that NYC OTB Pres talking about closing shop by next summer? I\'m thinking it\'s due to lack of money from the city coffers. Do you think it\'s a bargaining chip or a possible reality? Comments?

Girly:

Some words of wisdom:

1) Change is good.

2) Nature abhors a vacuum.

3) Early to bed and early to rise, and you wont have red in the whites of your
eyes.

If NYC OTB suspends operations, or if Mayor Mike pulls the plug on one of the
City\'s most notorious patronage mills, it is likely that the City will allow
a private entity to run the OTBs. It is also possible of course that whoever is
entrusted with New York\'s racing franchise will be entitled to operate off track
facilities.

I would hope that the new shooter would realize that a smaller number of larger
upscale OTB facilities would be the right approach. Think something along the
lines of the Autotote facility in New Haven, maybe 4 or 5 of them throughout
the City.

Some sort of deal is going to happen between NYCOTB and the state about the distribution of money. NYCOTB is already making adjustments to its branch schedules to show that it\'s making a good faith effort to save money. Several branches around the city have closed on Sundays. That\'s meaningful because managers and clerks get paid double time for Sunday on what is already decent pay.

Well, Change would be nice because let me tell you, there are 3 places in the whole Capital District that I feel comfortable in. The rest are little rooms full of poor souls who look completely lost. It\'s demoralizing to go, which is why I\'m so jazzed about local Internet- For me it can\'t come too soon!

Girly,

The issues you are reading about in the papers are only related to NYC OTB.

There are several OTB districts in the state and I have no idea what the finances or issues are at the others. They operate independently.
