1)(a) Federico Tesio died in 1954, yet is still mentioned as one of the world\'s
foremost breeders. I think he authored 1 and possibly 2 books which are still
in print. (b)Two Bloodhorse supplements -- the Auction Guide and the phone book
sized Stallion Directory-- are indispensable if you are in the business of
breeding and very informative if you are a racing fan/horseplayer. A
subscription to Bloodhorse usually gets you one or both of these publications
gratis and the weekly shot of Bloodhorse is not the worst thing if you want to
enhance your knowledge/understanding of breeding. (c) Wild Ride, both a history
of Calumet and the story of its demise as engineered by JT Lundy is a great read
and shows the transition in emphasis to high volume commercial breeding and the
market forces that drove this transition.
2) I have visited Derby List recently and while there seem to be a lot of very
devoted racing fans there, there is also the same amount of dicta-- material not
directly related to racing-- as there can be here. I thought it was amusing that
a recent Derby List discussion ended up on the TG board for resolution.
I have found Steve Crist\'s blog in DRF to have some very good input from
readers,although it is not quite as interactive as the TG Board and Derby List,
the conversation there stays pretty close to the topic at hand.
