Proud Spell - good and puzzling
« on: March 08, 2008, 07:29:33 PM »
although we all knew this was a 2 horse race (?), I am puzzled by the breeding on PS going long.  Big fan of LJ, so I\'m happy for him (and his wife), but Proud Citizen didn\'t really do much going a distance, although the dam did well, not great (2/3 in the $) - no wins at a distance...today\'s success was simply a fan bet, but I will be hard pressed to go with her on KY oaks day (which is obviously a lie)...any breeding comments here?

Proud Citizen should pass stamina on to his fillies. his dam is by Green Forest out of a Buckpasser mare; the 3rd dam a full to Northern Dancer. the bottom of PS\'s pedigree is neutral. I wouldn\'t call it classic 9f or 10f breeding, but in today\'s game, it\'s probably good enough.

Proud Citizen, a Lukas trainee, finished second in the Derby in an Era when the other trainers had found the magic elixir. Injury interrupted his career but he demonstrated a lot in April and May of his 3YO year.

Langfuhr has been a sneaky source of stamina including Imperialism, Imperial Gesture and Lawyer Ron. Theres another Canadian colt in there I can\'t recall right now. (Granting Lawyer Ron found the source of his stamina under Plech)

After watching her last time, I wasn\'t surprised Proud Spell wore down Indian Blessing on that track. Shes the favorite for at least the Oaks.

In this division we didn\'t learn anything we did not already know.

Wayne Lukas can still develop a good stallion and Larry Jones is a damn good horseman.
