Should a filly try for the Derby?
« on: March 20, 2008, 01:47:03 PM »
Just curious as to what you all think regarding whether a filly should try the Derby?  Eight Belles, Proud Spell, Pure Clan, other?  Any look number-wise to be competitive with the best boys?

Unless a few of the colts step up, I think a filly like Proud Spell might have a shot to hit the board. I don\'t see any Rags to Riches in this crop though.

I don\'t see a Rags to Riches in this crop either, which means a filly could win this Kentucky Derby. Something Rags never would have been able to do last year.

At this point, If the right filly gets entered, I do think she\'ll win.

Chuckles,

I understand your view about the speed of RTR\'s performance in the Belmont, but if you can\'t see how good she was regardless of that, you missed out on one terrific filly. WE can only hope she comes back 100% and continues to develop like she was last summer. She\'s a better filly than Proud Spell (at this stage) and I have a pretty high opinion of Proud Spell.
