I have a good Robby Albarado story.
He was riding a horse I own a piece of and we were in the paddock before the race and none of the other connections were in the paddock. This was the first time that Robby had ridden this particular filly.
So, he comes up to me, introduces himself and says \"I think this filly wants to come from off the pace, her best races are when she comes from off of it and the last two times the jocks rushed her off her feet so I am going to sit off the speed and make one big move in the stretch\"
I am thinking, great, he knows exactly what we should do, we have the best filly in the race and he has a good plan given all of the speed in the race so we are all set. I go to the windows and unload.
Next think I know, the gate pops open and Robby is scrubbing on our filly to be on the lead in 21 and 2 in a 4 way all out battle for the lead.
We wind up finishing 2nd as a horse that sat just behind the wall of horses dueling for the lead not surprisingly gets up for the win.
So, Robby brings the horse back to be unsaddled and I ask him what happened and he says (swear to god) \"with the post position, I had no choice but to send her\" I said \"what do you mean, you told me in the paddock 12 minutes ago that you were going to sit and make one big move, didn\'t you know you were on the rail given that you were wearing the #1 on your sleeve when you told me the plan about how you were going to ride her? He just smirks and walks back to the jocks room without saying anything else. Unreal.
I couldn\'t make this stuff up
