it\'s a pari-mutuel pool. it\'s as good a bet as any. a different set of variables indeed - more difficult to handicap - but everybody is dealing with the same risk. to win, you simply have to outperform the other players (& takeout, as with normal win bets). these pools are not the same as the Vegas books or UK antepost lines, where I would imagine you are, over the long run, supporting the house by taking odds well below true value. 80-1 always looks great, even if the actual risk might be closer to 120-1.
the main problem people have with this bet is pool size. 2 or 3k, and you will move the market against yourself.
