For the record, Sunny\'s Halo was not the only Derby winner to only have 2 3yo preps. In 98 a horse called Victory Gallop came in off 2 preps and ran 1 1/2 points (3 lengths) better than anyone else in the race, in fact got the best Derby # we had ever given out (boy, have times changed). Somehow they forgot to give us the trophy. Or the money.
I still remember how I felt when they passed us the first time with Solis sitting 3 wide, last, with a 5 length gap in front of him. Elliot and I both put our binoculars down in disgust, and didn\'t pick him up again until they turned for home.
At least it wasn\'t a big race.
