With all the media on Barbaro the last couple days, the story regarding the near end of Lost in the Fog\'s career went by without comment.  Apparently Gilchrist was/is one loss away from retiring Lost in the Fog to keep his race record \"appearing\" dominant:

\"But if he got beat a third time, then all of a sudden it\'s not so easy to make excuses, and you have to start looking at the big picture regarding his career once his racing days are over. At that point we might not have wanted to take a chance of putting a fourth straight loss on his record.\"

Well at least the guy is finally being HONEST. He\'s telling you right to your face its not about taking on all comers. Its about perception and record...lol

Scanning the entries theres some decent horses in the Smile if they are ready. Gonna have to look at that one closely.

Didn\'t he also say that the reason Aleo didn\'t sell him was because at his advanced age you couldn\'t buy this much fun??

If thats the case, why would Aleo care about his stud career??  And would a few more losses really diminish his value?  He\'s already a multiple graded winner.

I have been a LITF backer,  but these comments really disappoint.

i managed  to take a look at the smile . i like kelly\'s landing / gold storm / pomeroy , and the bigger the prices the better ... LITF just looks like another face in the crowd in that race - hope he gets bet down heavily ...
