Citronnade retired following Dahlia victory

Frank Stronach has retired Citronnade following her fifth graded stakes win of the year on Sunday in the Dahlia Handicap (G2) at Hollywood Park.
Mike Rogers, Stronach’s racing manager, said breeding plans have not been finalized for the four-year-old Lemon Drop Kid filly out of 2000 Canadian Broodmare of the Year Primarily, by Lord At War (Arg).
Citronnade began 2007 with four consecutive wins, including her lone Grade 1 triumph in the Gamely Stakes (G1) on May 28 at Hollywood Park. She also collected Grade 2 victories in the San Gorgonio (G2) and Santa Ana (G2) Handicaps at Santa Anita Park and the Beverly Hills Handicap (G2) at Hollywood Park.
After a second-place finish to Nashoba’s Key in the Yellow Ribbon Stakes (G1) on September 29 at the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita, Citronnade led at every call in a two-length score in the Dahlia.
Bred in Kentucky by Stronach’s Adena Springs, Citronnade won nine of 14 career starts and earned $864,205. She finished no worse than second in each of her races except for a fourth-place finish as the favorite in the Beverly D. Stakes (G1) at Arlington Park on August 11 and an unplaced finish in the 2006 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (G1) at Keeneland Race Course.
Citronnade is a half sister to 1997 Canadian champion two-year-old filly Primaly, 2000 Canadian champion two-year-old filly Poetically, and Grade 3 winner Whiskey Wisdom, who has ranked among Canada’s leading sires.
