WHY SHEET NUMBERS ARE A FRAUD
« on: March 01, 2009, 07:16:09 AM »
Took a look at two horses yesterday, both this one\'s for Phil & motovato are coming off negative 4 numbers.

these would rank faster than some of the great horses in history and even put them in big brown or curlin type class.

POP QUIZ: DOES ANYONE REALLY BELIEVE THAT?

jerry please stop your witch hunt and spend your time improving your product!

your method is way out of whack, you need to re-think your scale. negative numbers should be a gold standard not for any piece of junk that comes down the delaware turnpike.

hi - He was a good play against for a number of reasons imo  . Had NOT Phil been off such a big number going into Saturday , I would have been much less convinced that he would go back yesterday . . .

Last week, it was:

This week (coincidentally, when the ROTW analysis is spot on), it\'s:

Nice whipsaw action you\'ve got going there, bud: TG can\'t do anything right, according to you. Maybe you should leave here, and join the ragpickers.

Some people aren\'t happy unless they\'re miserable, if you know what I mean

Yeah, imagine someone thinking those guys who didn\'t even medal at the last couple of Olympics swam faster than Mark Spitz. Timer must be off.

And by the way, I think proper drug testing will deal with some of the \"scale\" issues. Interesting story on new blood tests for cyclists in yesterday\'s Times, if I get a chance I\'ll post it.

HR,

Hypothetically if Jerry changed his scale and moved it 5 points (for example) and the negative 4\'s became 1s, the same stuff would still happen. This one\'s for Phil would have gotten a 1 (gold standard) and quit like a dog. Horses today are very fast, but also very fragile, which means that its very hard to run extremely fast back to back efforts. Maybe its the horses that are the fraud and not the numbers.

In the post steroid era of racing does \"the bounce\" become an even bigger handicapping factor?

Solis also rode a horse called Victory Gallop in the Derby and Travers. And personally got him beat-- VG got the best number in both races by quite a bit.

It\'s funny you mentioned that - A good friend of mine often joked that Solis clock is of the cheap timex version and not that of the Eddie D/high-end Swiss version.  Matter of fact is favorite angle to this day is the switch from Solis.

While anabolic steroids can generate more bounce-producing \"super performances\", will their effect on improving recovery and muscle growth in response to maximum efforts tend to makes bounces less likely? Could they then, by introducing 2 opposite effects, make bounces less predictable?

It just occurred to me, in answer to my own question, that while anabolic steroids due aid in muscle recovery, they do not have the same positive effect on joint injuries. Studies indicate that they are actually harmful to joints. Since many reactions to big efforts are joint and bone related rather than just muscle soreness, anabolic steroids are likely to increase the likelihood of bounces.
