[Wild Again]

I have not posted in almost 10 years.

My last question concerned the accuracy of the numbers as they relate to certain tracks.

After thinking more about my question I believe it was stated improperly.

I would like to restate my question.

Is it possible to handicap at Monmouth Park using the sheets or is Monmouth Park a place where trainers intent and insider knowledge of illegal medications are paramount?

Are you having issues with dirt and turf races?  The speed bias kills you over there.

The issue I am having is one where horses jump up 10 lengths.

And where their is nothing in the numbers to suspect that the horse is a viable contender.

Originally I thought the numbers were wrong.

But something struck me as being odd.  I win at Del Mar.  I win at Churchill.  I win at Fairgrounds.  I win at Oaklawn.  I lose at Monmouth.

A comment from someone sitting behind me is what prompted my post, his comment \"How could that horse improve its lifetime best by 3 seconds\".

Mr Brown or anyone else, how does a mature horse improve its lifetime best by 3 seconds?

Was Monmouth Park on Saturday the 16th of July that fast?

Was their something in the numbers that I missed in every race and that I have missed for the last 7 or 8 years.

Do I suddenly get stupid when I walk in the door but it only effects my handicapping of live races?

Or is their something about Monmouth that is different, i.e. the horses are getting a little help, the trainers point to certain races and not every horse is in every race to win?

I don\'t know but maybe someone out there in Thorograph land does know.

As an aside I used to bet quite heavily and attend the races 3 or 4 times a week, then came poker, now came the ban so I am back to the horse.

Any help would be appreciated.

Let\'s put it this way-- my ROI on the Haskell and other stakes at Mth has been a whole lot better than on other races there. Why is a whole \'nother question.

I can\'t answer your questions, but I whole-heartedly share your suspicion.

There are plenty of other tracks. I play where I understand the racing product and can turn a profit. That excludes Monmouth, Calder and Maryland racing for me...barely more integrity at these places than most harness tracks, jai-alai frontons, or roller-derby rinks.

I\'m not sure it\'s an integrity issue. I kill Calder and do well at the Mid Atlantic tracks (drugs notwithstanding). But I feel like I have no shot at Keeneland, and it was true with the old dirt track there as well. It may simply be that certain handicapping styles and methods fit certain tracks and not others.

I recall a long time ago, people used to say you needed to factor in the tides when betting tracks very close to the sea (Monmouth and Del Mar are the two I most recall people mentioning this about).  I have no idea how you factor tidal status into your handicapping, but somebody has done it.

Something \"fishy\" about tidal influences? A great double entendre, even if
unintended.

Al Dellappe, who was at the time Rick Wilson\'s agent, introduced me to a fellow
at Monmouth Park in the late 1980s who took the whole tidal thing very seriously.
Dellappe did not take this man too seriously, not surprising considering that his
rider was known to send everything to the front regardless of track bias.

The rust belt today, Living Room Downs Saturday and Sunday, live and in person
next Friday and Saturday. Looking forward to full fields, fast, firm and taking
plenty of abuse from Frank D.

I\'m well-aware they eventually opened the door, but Jersey wouldn\'t let Wilson ride in the state for quite a while . . .

Richie,

The abuse meter was working overtime on drbillym. He gave me a 5/2 Tagg winner
( finally ) which a blind man could have come up with ! Then he texted me at least 5 times singing his praises and touting losers on the rest of the card.
