Blind Luck - A different point

I hate to detract from the long intellectual debate about weight and its effect on horses, but if you remember the original point being made at the beginning of the thread, it was Larry Jones whining about spotting Blind Luck 2 pounds.

To my mind, Blind Luck continuing to be campaigned so ambitiously by her connections, shipping anywhere, anytime and crossing the country AGAIN to face Havre de Grace on Havre de Grace\'s home track where she steamrolled \"tin cans\" in her prep for the Delaware Cap, was a bigger impediment than the 2 pounds.  Nope, I can\'t justify it, quantify it, or prove it scientifically, but Havre de Grace, was on her home track, had a tactical edge in a short field and couldn\'t hold off Blind Luck.  Larry Jones\' filly (who is excellent) was beat, on the square, IMO, by a top class filly (also excellent) who seems to be able to run her race anywhere.

And \"yes\", the connections of Blind Luck deserve so much credit for their willingness to run her all over the country and take on all comers.  A start contrast to some recent high profile connections.........

The best horse won on Saturday, 2 pounds or not.

Here here!  She is a throwback.  Don\'t think either her or HDG are fast enough to be Horse of the Year, but if they gave it to her if she won the Distaff, I wouldn\'t raise that much of a fuss.

So you just dismiss BL\'s lost to HDG by over 3 lengths as if it didn\'t happen?  And BL\'s loss by a similar margin 2 other times this year?

Just curious why you think that BL winning this one by a nose while in receipt of 2 pounds means the better horse won but you don\'t think the better horse won by 3 lengths when at even weights or the better horse beat BL twice out in California, BL\'s backyard?

Think Jim meant the best horse won on Saturday, not that he necessarily thinks BL is better than HDG all the time.Looking at all the negatives against BL on Sat, as stated,HDG had no excuse to get beat.A perfect trip and getting run down from behind needs more than a 2 lb weight spot as an excuse in my area code.

That does not mean at equal weights HDG would still not have won.That\'s the question without an answer.

Mike is right.  I am saying the best horse on Saturday won the race.  And \"yes\", I am giving that opinion \"post-race\" because before the race I thought Havre de Grace was easily the more likely winner Saturday and I was not a believer in Blind Luck.

Blind Luck is tough as nails and as Mike said, to me the 2 pounds is bullshit relative to the tactical advantage HDG had, along with a very nice trip.
