It\'s very tough to win from an outside post at Gulstream, say anything outside of the 7. That\'s not to say it can\'t be done. But you either have to get lucky or use some early gas to gain position.
As I recall Barbaro broke from 10 post and was able to establish a tracking postion from the 2 or 3 path all the way around the track, with half mile of 47 and change. So he didn\'t have to use a ton of early energy to establish that position. He then powered home in the stretch and galloped out like a really good thing (which was the most notable thing to me about the race).
Big Brown on the other hand broke from the 12 post and had to go 45 and change to the half mile to establish early position, which should have fried him, but he kept on going.
I personally think it is going to be tough for Mohaymen to win if a few inside of him show enough early speed to hang him out 4 wide or more on the first turn.
