The guy is older. I think he just loves to watch her run. Knows he won\'t have another one like her in his lifetime. I mean who ever does.

As far as the whole breeding thing goes the guy stands Tapit who is a Grade One money producing cow. The mare just loves to run. So they are all being blessed.

Would she have beaten Rachel or Zenyatta. We will never know. But she is doing doing one thing they never did. Started racing early and has stood the test of time. #whataspecialmare #tobehold

She is a sight to behold.  Pun intended.

Hughes has no connection to Tapit, though.  He\'s Spendthrift.  Tapit stands at Gainesway, owned mostly by Winchell.

Oops! Thanks for the correction. Thought he did. With all the money he has put into the game I thought he had caught the big one. But he has this one and that\'s sometimes when you are running out of years, good enough....

Sorry I wasn\'t clear.

Those were all the horses in the Kentucky Oaks the year she ran 2nd and Executive Privilege was a horse she lost to by a nose in the Del Mar Debutante as a 2yo.  

Baffert and Pletcher hailed as the greatest trainers of the day but can\'t keep a horse together for 5 seasons of racing the way that Mandella has accomplished with Beholder.  

Princess of Sylmar, Unlimited Budget, DOJ, and Silsita all trained by Pletcher.  Executive Privilege and Midnight Lucky trained by Baffert.  Close Hatches trained by Mott.  The others from that year\'s Oaks no longer racing as well.  

Ultimately, I was trying to state that Mandella is part of the genuis behind the horse standing the test of time.  Do you really believe if Pletcher or Baffert had Beholder that she would still be racing and winning today?  I am not trying to start a controversy here but I do not believe that she would be.

Thanks for the clarification.  I certainly wouldn\'t take anything away from Mandella as he has done a nice job keeping her healthy and presumably happy.  I also get that Pletcher/Baffert (more so Pletcher IMO) have a reputation for running them fast until they break, but wondering how much of that is influenced by the type of owners that gravitate towards them versus their ability (e.g get us some black type so we can get them to the shed).  Also, wouldn\'t put Mott in that camp which is what made me question the post to begin with.  In any event, nice story for all involved, both human and equine.
