Parx takeout - do they at least take you out for dinner first?
« on: September 22, 2016, 08:58:44 PM »
Or maybe a drink and some dancing, before taking 30% on tris/supers, and 26% on P3/4/6?

I won\'t be looking past 2-legs or 2-slots. (WPS: 17%, Ex: 20%, DD: 20%)

Edit: in original I stated 30% on P3/4/6, corrected to 26%.

Thanks for this info. Definitely will tailor my betting strategy now. Only interested in this track because it is a big day with big pools and full fields. Take out is terrible.

The whole notion that multiple horse bets \'should\' have a higher takeout is badly flawed.

Getting away with it because players are conned by the \'high\' payoffs is not a good reason.

All bets should have the same takeout. Some case might be made for horizontal bets costing more, as it ties up money and reduces churn. There\'s also the parlay with one takeout angle.  But vertical bets, no way ex/tri/super is justified as carrying a higher takeout.

I\'m a small player but aware (& knowledgeable) of most of the issues that are at play in this game. I spend a lot of time at it, but understand that it can consume you. After all, there is a direct correlation between time spent and results. The takeout issue is one that I pay attention to. 30% is egregious. I will play the doubles to satisfy having skin in the game, and wager on the good card at Laurel. MD is a very nice racing community. Good luck!

Parx is a joke for this reason and a few others.

I\'ll be going out there tomorrow more for the sport of it. Very rare that in one afternoon you get within 10 feet of arguably one of the best 3 yo fillies in the last 20 years, the Derby winner, and the Preakness/Haskell winner.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

We can all console ourselves knowing that some of that exorbitant takeout goes to
PA\'s state of the art PED testing and enforcement.

As Joe says, a good opportunity to see some top performers in the flesh.

Absolutely no offense, but Parx\'s Pick 3 and 4 takeout is 26% while Laurel\'s is 25.75%. Hardly a difference there.

None taken - the original post said 30% on P3 ect... I checked HANA and you are correct. Reduced rake on the P5 at Laurel is enticing.

Oops, sorry guys. I went to HANA and got the right numbers, and then just typed them wrong!

It\'s okay. Both takeouts suck but I just wanted to be clear that you have to check where  you\'re playing because too many of them have really high takes for the multiple-leg bets and trifectas.

yeah, despite the brutal rake, it should be a good day, I\'m absolutely looking forward to being there for the first time in a few years

I guess you get a kiss at the gates before, well, you know. Kisses have to be part of the package you would think.

But a teeny speck on their income statement
« Reply #12 on: September 24, 2016, 10:01:22 AM »
Beyond the obvious usurious rates, this income is nothing to the overall Parx operation. They are hosing the avg horse player for no good reason beyond that is what they do.   Although it seems impossible, this situation will get worse if Stronach gets his wish and gets control of the Parx racing operation as the rebates which are extremely generous thanks to the usurious takeout will vanish.

I would think Stronach would lower the takeouts to put them more in line with his other tracks - all of which, bar the Maryland tracks, are in the top half of HANA\'s takeout ratings.  And it\'s encouraging that Laurel has lowered the takeout on P5/6.

Why would a 3rd rate track take away the rebates ?
