This thought is not about who goes to Kentucky or how many. Its about:

Why doesn\'t TAP enter any horses in the Santa Anita Derby? They give points. Is he playing defense by sending two for the Arkansas Derby? Does he have outstanding warrants in California?

The cost of transportation? The effects of Jet lag. Economics or physical risks?
Human factors. Just tradition.

You\'re asking a young horse to ship across the country, probably with an effort, and then ship back across the country to run within a month at a distance longer than he\'s ever run.

Seems like a lot to ask of a young 3YO.

The home-team edge enjoyed by those based out there has long been considerable.  Can\'t see any Easterner going out there and dominating . . . and if all you\'re looking to do is \"tee\" your horse up for a prime effort in Louisville, you can do that East of the Mississippi with less stress, and without eating up your time, help, and nerves.
