Life-Changing Scores
« on: November 05, 2018, 07:54:05 AM »
Could someone make it their mission to take the words \"life-changing score\" out of the racing vernacular, especially on the part of the TVG talking heads and in-house analysts? As someone, who in a long and sordid career of gambling, has made a few such scores, I can say with certainty that unless you take the proceeds, buy a share or two of Berkshire Hathaway stock and a long vacation from gambling, preferably on a beach far far away from any wireless connections (or an extended trip to mars, say), these life-changing scores fall somewhat short of long term hopes and dreams, yesterday\'s $600 or so pick-six payout at Santa Anita notwithstanding.

I agree. Those thinking that their years of handicapping toils and betting will someday payoff with a \"life changing score\" are being almost as naive as those that think that they will someday be rewarded for their years of playing the lottery by winning the big multi-million dollar prize. True in betting there is a skill component involved but their chances of making that \"huge score\" are almost as bad.

It\'s only life-changing if you\'re smart and do the right thing afterwards, and you have to take the emotions out of it. The highs and lows can be brutal. I wish I could teach my young self what I\'ve learned the hard way over the past 40 years.
