Another training fatality at SA today?  When does the BC jump ship and move? Surface or Supplements?

[Princess Lili B was a 3-year-old filly bred, owned, and trained by veteran horseman David Bernstein, best known as the trainer of 1994 champion older male The Wicked North. On Thursday morning, after Princess Lili B was put down following a half-mile work in 53 seconds, Bernstein was understandably rattled.


“She was perfect,” Bernstein said. “The work was slow because she never works fast. She didn’t have a lot of talent, she was just kind of a horse. But she was my horse.”]

I know this board is about handicapping and finding value, I get that.

Reading the comments from Bernstein, particularly the last line, really hit home. Heart breaking to read that.

A good start--maybe what???--30 years late!

I didn\'t read the article yet--will they actually have meaningful penalties against trainers who violate these policies or just the usual slap on the proverbial wrist?

From BC website.  I guess it is current policy for them as stated below.  More at the link below than what I have cut and pasted here. But today things changed from what they have currently written obviously.  

We were successful in implementing event-specific race conditions for 2012 and 2013 which prohibited race day administration of furosemide in Breeders\' Cup two-year old races in cooperation with the CHRB, Santa Anita and the TOC. However, in evaluating host-site options for 2014, it became apparent that the race-day medication policy for 2014 would have to be consistent with rules in effect in any eligible host jurisdiction at the time of the event. The horsemen\'s groups in potential host jurisdictions indicated that they would withhold their approval of simulcast rights unless this was the case, jeopardizing our ability to conduct simulcast wagering on our event, and thus the event itself.

There has been good progress toward uniformity on model rules in the US over the last several months and the Breeders\' Cup has endorsed that effort. To date, no racing jurisdiction in the US has established a policy eliminating the use of all race-day medications and none of our potential future host sites has been able to offer assurances that such an eventuality is likely in the near term.

I read the proposal-not only sounds great but seems cause to raise takeout to pay for it.  I doubt anything would hardly change under these protocols.

Send a few of the cheating beyond comprehension horsemen or the morally bankrupt vets to prison and see if that helps.

I\'m very confident that if I rigged races on a daily basis being bet upon nationwide that I would see the inside of a prison cell.

Yeah. Funny thing is this could end up being a good thing. It might end up getting the industry off trying to pass legislation conflating lasix with illegal drugs.
