Question to any of you that are knowledgeable about workouts:

What is the purpose of workouts at each of these distances: 3f, 4f, 5f, 6f, and

What is a trainer mainly trying to accomplish at each of those distances?

Depends upon the trainer IMO.  Smart question but asked the wrong way.  First figure out what a trainer “usually” does in the AM.  Watch for any horse who stands out based on that.  But pay attention when someone does something different.  Especially the athlete.

My experience is the good East coast trainers (Chad, Todd) work 4 furlongs reasonably slowly with a big gallop out. The good West coast trainers (Baffert, O\'Neill) work 5-6 furlongs fast with a moderate gallop out. I agree when something is different (good or bad) that is a tip off.
