No-fig ‘boxed’ horse wins again…
« on: February 26, 2022, 01:15:43 PM »
Longshot EMBLEM ROAD just won the $20 million Saudi Cup.

Denied a huge score, I threw a tomato at the wall. Then, suffered more displeasure when commentator Michelle Yu (Ugh. She’s terrible) reasoned after-the-fact that the son of QUALITY ROAD had a pedigree meant to go this far, a mile and an eighth. Wrong. Quality Road’s are milers.

Sigh. Onward…

Not that it matters in a race like this where  everybody can get the distance - but you don\'t think a horse by Quality Road (a winner of two Grade Ones at 1 1/8) out of an extraordinarily well-bred Bernardini mare can get 1 1/8?

Actually, I believe 3 GR1\'s at 1 1/8. Florida Derby. Woodward. Donn.

He also hit the board twice at 10F (Travers and Gold Cup).  The Donn was a track record at the time.  Pretty sure that a horse that sets a track record at 9 panels can \"get\" 10 (though, he did love him some GP).
