Canterbury eliminating run-ups:

https://www.canterburypark.com/new-rail-to-be-installed-on-canterburys-main-track-to-enhance-safety-and-modify-race-timing/

“By timing races from the moment the gate opens, we are being more transparent with thoroughbred timing and providing our bettors with the accurate information they have been wanting for years”

Hip Hip Hooray!!!

Now stop messing with the turf rail. ;-)

What does TG think of eliminating run ups? If all tracks do not adopt this timing , it could get messy.

From a figure making perspective it makes no difference.

Folks will just have to get used to seeing very slow fractions, and  final times, and mentally adjust.

Actually, will make scanning the pp\'s with mixed tracks  pretty weird.

Sheet #\'s and Beyer style figs , not affected.

Chris Merz resigned.

\"With Merz’s departure, the decision to eliminate the run-up is now being re-considered, according to Jeff Maday, a spokesman for Canterbury Park.\"

The men in black got to him. They don\'t want us handicappers to have accurate data. ;-)
