Can't bet on line in Michigan

As of 1/1/25, on line horse race wagering is no longer legal in Michigan. The law apparently states that adw\'s are illegal unless there is a track that has a license. Mi has no live horse racing now and the last track that had live racing last year was Northville Downs. ND has requirements to meet to get a track license, and is currently tied up in lawsuits that implies this is going to be a very long time before it is resolved. My question is: what legal in Michigan betting options do I have? Any ideas would be appreciated. I love horse racing and wagering.

I cannot address the legality issue, but as a practical matter, a VPN can be useful. It has made it possible for me to keep playing from far away.

Same thing in South Carolina. I had no idea that some states ban horse race betting until I ran into someone who moved to South Carolina & can\'t bet on his own account there.

Another reason I\'ll never move out of NYS.

Who are the politicians in Michigan who pushed for this? Vote them out.

There must be bookies lining up to take horse bets somewhere in Michigan.  I remember when I used to hang out at OTB in the 1980s and because of the surcharge, there were bookies in the OTB parlor.  I never used them but a lot of the other guys in there did.

no otb\'s in Mich. Nearest ones would be Canada or Ohio. Distance a big negative.

Because I\'m old, I get in for $1 in the Albany Clubhouse Racebook.  Regular price is $2.  I can get in free on Sundays during football season when I wear a team\'s jersey.  
Back in the 1980s I was living in Suffolk County L.I. and there was an OTB Teletheater, I think it was in Hauppauge, where not only did you have to pay to get in, but you had to be wearing a sportscoat. If you came without one, they would give you one to wear while you were there. When I moved to Albany, they had a dress code at the Albany Teletheatre that include no jeans. They removed the dress code years ago.

I went to to the one midtown manhattan Teletheatre jacket and nice restaurant especially if I was lucky enough to win(unfortunately I didn’t eat there a lot 😉)

Thanks to Churhill Downs us Michiganders can still wager on the horses. CD is suing the State of Michigan saying their(Michigan) actions are illegal. And CD is accepting bets through Twin Spires from Michigan residents. I heartily applaud CD and will only wager with them in the future because of their strong support. Thanks again.
