In Summation and the Forego

There\'s a colt at Calder Race Course that is currently 4 for 4. His name is In Summation. He looks sprint bred, but hes got some interesting blood to make you think 8.5 poles may genuinely be within his reach:

It\'s early to be predicting much, but that nagging feeling is there. If you bet future books you may want to give this one a look, sooner rather than later.

Forego Observations

Silver Wagon- Main concern has to be all the time off again and the fact that he hasn\'t really come out running in the past in that circumstance. The Positives are that he crushed everyone he saw in that Met Mile besides Ghostzapper,he has shown a distinct fondness for Saratoga in the past and he\'s been there working well for his return. His pace style will be a factor. More upon that later.

Forest Danger- Undoubtedly will be a low priced favorite. Guessing in the 8-5 range. (Revision, think he\'ll be EVEN money), The question is has the horse reacted to big efforts? Putting aside the debate regarding the extent of those recent efforts, its pretty clear he has. This last time there was a reported muscle tear. Forest Danger has handled his layoffs, but Saturday he gets to run on a new track and with blinkers, so it looks like they are sending him. Apparently, they felt he was off poorly in the Carter. (Quizzically, that may have helped him) Saratoga can get fast, so we\'ll have to see how it plays, but it certainly won\'t be as fast as Forest\'s Carter or as fast as Hallandale was the race before.

Battle Won- This horse is very quick. He may be nearly as quick as Don Six. He makes it interesting, but should be in receipt of more weight. He actually picks up significant pounds for this heat.

Yankee Mon- My numbers don\'t flatter him and expect you\'re better poised to judge. The latest medical miracle? The preferred juice style is right at them and winging and though this one appears to want to run that way, he looks lighter than the others on early foot. Note that last race was apparently upon a very slow surface. Enigma.

Swingforthefences- OK, hes not as good as St. Liam or Commentator. That Westchester was not a bad effort. Another however that should be getting weight and really isn\'t.

Keep the Faith- Generally a stalker. That last was a record time. Never been dirt. Sunday Silence never ran Saratoga. If you envison a pace battle between Forest Danger, Battle Won and Yankee Mon this one could be in position to pick them up if up to a dirt effort. Tough Call.

Mass Media- ? How do you even begin to handicap this horse. Blinkers off, Blinkers On, Turf, Frankel sure appears to be looking for the tonic. He\'s still a one timer, but suspect that last work indicates whatever his best currently is you\'ll see it Saturday. If right he could get first run on tiring front enders.

Too early to call, but leaning against Forest Danger here. Petcher can get a lot out of horses with blinkers but does it portend a pace battle? Look at his Withers in that regard. Did he bounce or was he too involved too early?

First off, two things happened today at CRC that are worthy of note. The track was very slow and sometimes wet and a horse named Forest Danz 2YO ran a major league effort. I tend to discount the skipping style, but he may not be bad. Steal him cheap Jerry.

Secondly, I hope you future bookers got on the In Summation bandwagon before that race. Granted there were no older horses to compare it to, but hes a mover.

One other thing happened. The Wood Man went down at Saratoga

I am cursed with a strong memory for things which are not really relevant.

A lot of people are going to curse me for complimenting CTC, but the above post
was dated September 2, 2005, when In Summation was a 2YO. So while the Clown
may have gone a little overboard with the future books and the 8.5 furlong
stuff, give him credit for tabbing this one as having some talent at an early
stage.

In Summation one of the plainest looking horses you would ever want to see and
was almost docile in the paddock and during his warm ups on Monday. Will be
interesting to see Clement pick his spots as In Summ tries to avenge the defeat
of his maternal grandsire, Dayjur (out of Gold Beauty) in the 1990 BC Sprint.

Meh... the horse already was four-for-four. He didn\'t exactly unearth the Hope Diamond.

has worked out.

Pletcher and Zito will each saddle 5, and CTC will be able to toss 1/2 the
field.

I don\'t make many public calls on horses Richie. If you want to attribute Forest Danz as a bona fide \"buy\" recommendation thats your prerogative. He did run a fast maiden race is my recollection. If you\'re saying it would have been a \"losing proposition\", a quick review reveals thats debatable. You\'d have to acquiesce that I did say \"buy him cheap\". Brass Hat was by Prized and T-Graph had him on the line for about 50K before their vet nixed the deal. Assumming a similar \"cheap\" buy, Forest Danz appears to have completed his career after his 2YO year with a total of 108K in earnings. 8 races, 4 firsts, 2 seconds. The race I witnessed, I believe he did run a fast looking time, but I also said I discount slop.

Not every horse Team Valor buys can run. Most can\'t even walk.

On the other hand if you\'re questioning my ability to ascertain a good horse early on, theres a recently turned 3YO I have a very high opinion on that I\'ve  documented so that there will be little doubt about that opinion later. However, I won\'t say more about the horse right now. This one won\'t be cheap, but he will be good.

p.s. I bet a Zito in the Derby in 1991. And at one time in Florida proclaimed his \'94 Derby winner my Derby horse, but that didn\'t pan out because I got cute on race day.
