By the way, Bernardini ran really fast. If the track was the same as the previous race, he ran really REALLY fast-- fast enough that it wouldn\'t have mattered what Barbaro did.

He first started talking about this horse \"could be any kind\" in his weekly Derby column in The Bloodhorse after the big mile maiden win at Gulfstream.
If I remember correctly he stated the Derby might be a rush job but the Preakness might suit the schedule a little better.

If we are giving out kudos,I might mention that Ed Fountaine (NY Post) identified Barbaro as a Derby prospect after he broke his maiden on the Delaware lawn. Hope he followed through and bet him in the futures
