Now, with ThoroGraph\'s new \"free\" Monmouth Thursday sheets, every boy and girl can see what happens when trainer Kelly Breen\'s vet puts the good wood to one of his horses. His new acquisitions. In Monmouth\'s 4th race today, Breen\'s FIRST TO ROME scored first-off-the-claim at a preposterous 11-1!

Your boy Breen brings the 1st timers(2 yr.olds) in at 21%.When you bet his firsters at <4/1, he\'s 11/26.
Unusual to view a trainer that does both things well.
Do you feel Breen is doing the same for all his steeds to achieve these results?

It\'s worth noting that Breen was once the assistant trainer [and exercise rider] to the high-percentage Ben Perkins Sr., a trainer who was pretty deadly with firsters [and layoffs] for many years at Monmouth. [Does Ben Sr. still helps prep Ben Jr.\'s New Farm babies? Not sure.] In the past two years at Monmouth, Breen was 5 of 15 with all firsters. And 3 of 10 with 2yr. old firsters. Of course, Bravo aboard means they\'re particularly well meant.

My 2 cents: It starts with [uhhh... ] \"good nutrition\" on the farm where they\'re prepped. A lot of the Monmouth guys have relationships with top farm people in Florida - like pinhooker extraordinaire Robert Scanlon, who recently passed away - and these guys do the foundation work. They hand them off at a certain readiness. [Remember when Shug used to win with his firsters many years ago? Well, they were prepped on the farm by a retired Frank Whitely!]

By the way, Breen NEVER used to win on the turf. I remember at Gulfstream this winter he was something like 0 for 50 on the surface [Was it 1 for 50?]. But then he scored at 15-1 AT A MILE AND A HALF [!] with turfer APPROVED BY DYLAN, an animal he claimed from Dutrow and Sandy Goldfarb! [Sheesh! Really busted me up.]
