Constructing a Bet

First off, great job TGJB with your BC figs.  They certainly helped savvy players score nicely.

There are many good handicappers that don\'t win because they don\'t construct bets properly. With so many live horses on BC day that are prices,  this can become difficult to do.  TGJB mentioned coming this close to \"taking home the grandstand\" in the Sprint. I would ask,  how did he construct that bet when the second place horse wasn\'t really a strong contender on numbers??  

How do players out there make wagers??
- Boxing??
- singling and then wheeling or part wheeling?
- keying in different places (win,place?)

As for Multiple race wagers,  same question......how do you construct these??

Any suggestions or explanations on how you do this would be greatly appreciated.  I am often frustrated after BC day because I fail to put the right horses together even though I use a lot of the correct ones.  Thanks to all that comment.

Dub-- I boxed 1-4-9, then played tris (and maybe supers, I don\'t remember) with those 3 in the first position, and about 6-7 horses underneath. I used the second horse, didn\'t use the third (or fourth, for that matter).

Had I been wise nough to use Thor, I\'d have wheeled him in third on the trifecta and made a huge place bet in case he screwed up and ran really good......

However, in a field that large, the tri wheel is not really an option. So I would have to make a decision on how much I could afford to invest in the race.

I had $400 for the day and the sprint was only half way through the card.

So, in hindsight, I would have bet $50 to win and wheeled him in second with $5 exactas. I use the wheel with longshot keys because there is enough cheating to warrant the investment.

I had 1200 for the day, after spending a week, I had 2 keys. Street Sense and Round Pound, a couple of possible longshots amongst the other races. Here is what I did.

200 win on both SS and RP, I blew 40 in exacta boxes in both races (losers), I played 660 in rolling picks 3\'s and was alive several times for big bucks. Did not have thoroecho and Invasor otherwise it would have been huge. Still a great day. When you get 15-1, you play to win.
