take a look at the 9th at calder today and tell me how the 5 horse could open up 1-1 go to 4-1 and run off by 6.? crappy works, bad trainer all = no chance. buttttt a little go go juice and wallaaaa.

funny you bring this up...I had the tri bet:

6/2,3,5/7  and did not reverse the top 2 spots...can\'t speak for the odds changing, but I had the 5 in my bet for certain.  Here\'s why - when betting fillies in sprints, I check the sire for his sprint prowess, and those with 15% or more are the ones I must include.  In that race, only 2 fillies had that type of sire, and also the reason I put # 7 in the bet at 50:1, who finished 3rd...age old excuse - the right horses, the wrong order.

Turf route first lifetime start, showed speed then tired when 30-1 (plus bled), sloppy track when 9-1 second lifetime start, really bad field today -- I don\'t think juice had anything to do with it, she didn\'t seem that much of a surprise to me but the early money was a bit strange, probably due to nothing much bet in the pool

Cannot comment on the Calder race other than the last two posts contained solid analysis.  There was however,  some shenanigans in New Orleans yesterday with a horse paying some $150 to win.

I made a compeling case for fraud and posted it at www.dmtc.com/forum under bellsbendboy.   I hope I am not breaking any rule but it was eight paragraphs and I did not want to retype.  No forum contains the handicapping acumen of this one anyway.  Happy holidays to all.

went over there and read your post...interesting coincidence.  Like father , like son I guess...the wife and I scratched our heads over that race for sure, and were stunned when no one could pass the 3 in the stretch.

question - do you think the other jocks know what is going on?  by that, do the Albarado\'s and Guidry\'s of the world accept mounts with the Carmouches/Patins of the world?

  A very good retelling of the stories of Patin and Caramouche. Many great
betting scams have come unraveled due to an unlikely winning margin. In one of
my favorites, a trainer was able to enter a 3YO in a race restricted to 2YOs in
England. The scam may have gone undetected were it not for a gaudy winning
margin of 20 lengths...in a five furlong race.

  In the early 80s, a full field of 12 faced the starter in a 6 furlong dash at
the Fairgrounds. The starter made an announcement to the jockeys that the
stewards stand had called, and that the stewards had reason to believe that one
of the riders in the race was carrying a battery. The starter announced that
there would be no further investigation if the rider dropped the battery in the
starting gate before the race began.

  After the field broke from the gate, the assistant starters were mildly
surprised to find no less than 7 batteries on the ground.

Electrifyingly funny story ,  but very ironic too . Though it sounds more like the 780\'s than the 1980\'s  . Let me take a stab at trying to get my brain around this - when all the jockeys were in the track gift shop just before the race , a light bulb went off over someones head ... What does anybody suppose happended to the other 5 batteries  ?

I got \"let into\" a Mexican Mofia scam ring many years ago. A tout I used to call (Analyst Turf Publications - near Santa Anita) sold my phone number to the \"Under World.\" Some guy \"from the backstretch\" named Frank Martin calls me and gives me a horse. He says \"Put down a dime\" - if he wins, which there\'s no question he will - you wire me half the profit.\" Being the idiot I was at the time, I agreed. The horse ran off by 10 lenghts. I placed our original win bet plus lots more. I made $13,800 on one race. It was Hollywood Park in like 1997. Horse was named \"Little Itch.\"

This same guy gave me seven more phone calls and seven more \"winners\" none of which won. I chased them all. And lost way more than the $13,800...

Later on I told someone I know and trust about it and he said that had been going on for years out west and it was a Mexican Mafia scam.

Live and learn I guess - but I know for a fact certain races are rigged. Most times during low level claiming events on weekdays when nobody\'s really watching. Another interesting twist to the \"Mexican Mafia\" angle is the race in which Little Itch won - there wasn;t one white jock in the race - all latin jocks...

well that answers my question about what happend to the other 5 batteries at the FG race - they kept going and going and going all the way to southern  california  ...

one time w/ friends at an aqu handicapping contest , jokingly i asked a horse in the post parade if he was really going to run , he bobbed his head up and down and winked ,  my friends all played him but i didn\'t , my contest pic\'s were in prior to the 1st race and i told them besides - you can\'t bet horse\'s like that , you\'d have to be crazy etc... well the horse won and paid $18 and change  , later i wondered how that horse knew ...

if the racing industry was run in a business like manner , it might begin to exercise some leverage with the breeding industry , rebaters , cheaters and politicians , it would have no patience in continuing to ( not ) fix the same problem over and over again ...

several years ago, there were 3 hispanic jocks that were known to have...how should i say...play games.  two of them no longer ride at the jersey shore preferring chicago and florida circuits instead.   they used to warm there horses up almost in company and discusss how they were going to do their thing.......very sad.

As described this is not a race fixing scam, it\'s a touting scam.
If there were ten horses in the race, they called up ten different people and gave them each a different horse.
The other scam I used to love in California racing was the one where, if a long shot won an early race, they immediately would print up tout sheets with the winner on top, and then drop them on the ground all over the track hoping that some guy would pick it up and be impressed enough to pay for their selections tomorrow.

The exact same thing happen to me at Hollywood many many years ago.  The only difference is that I didn\'t cash that first race, so I didn\'t chase anymore...I remember him saying how they had been working the horse with a 150lbs and he would be long gone wire to wire at 15 to 1.  Needless to say, he didnt win
