Attention all Juvenile-ophiles
« on: December 11, 2007, 10:36:25 PM »
Six 2YO races on Wednesday\'s AQ card, 5 in the P6 sequence, the late P4 all 2YO
races.

Last Friday, 5 maiden races on a 9 race card.

And this is why we want NYRA back for 30 more years??

Miff, make all the excuses you want for PJ Campo (racing secretary)but with
all the stalls between Aq and Bel you have to have more balance on the racing
cards on a daily basis.

Bee,

Winter racing is really nothing more than a fill in.With the winter purse structure in NY, you know that many outfits kept more horses here rather than send them to GP or Tampa which is getting lots of ink for a joint with small purses and garbage racing, generally speaking.

PJ is really in touch with the trainers and tries to accommodate while putting on the best program with what he has.Your comments re saturation of one class on given days is valid and will be passed along. With the big carryover, I think the card is ok and could have been much worse for a December Wednesday at the Big A.

Sen.Bruno has dug in deep on the NYRA franchise renewal so far, which may result in a less than desirable solution with the NY game getting screwed because of political egos and power.Bee, if you knew the alternatives to present NYRA, you would light a candle that they retain the franchise.

On those points I completely agree. Anything coming out of the CD/Stronach hybid would be a disaster. Bruno ego is way too big to give in now. I hate to say it but we may not have NYRA Jan 1. I\'d take a day of NYRA 2yo vs a Day at Beulah......

Richie..

I agree with EJXD that Wednesday\'s card was fun, challenging and very playable. Just look at the 4th where Lion\'s Maddy was sent off as juicy overlay or the 6th where Bomber D Back was shockingly underbet.

Realize too that many outfits are looking to get their juvy a start before the end of the year (\"ran at 2\") or a win (\"won at 2\") or black type (Capote), and welcome or encourage a card like like Wednesday\'s. Late season two year old cards, (CD, CRC,TBD, et al, and a legacy of the late Bobby Umphrey), are becoming regular fixtures on meet calendars. I like them.

(Plus, as an added bonus, we also got to see Contessa send out the \'08 Derby winner!)

I have no problem with NYRA, but entering a 30 year deal when it is not
necessary to commit for that long a period is IMO not good business in general
terms.

Why should elected officials, most of whom will not be in office in 10 years,
be able to bind the state for 30 years? \"Democracy\" is great, but it has its
quirks.
