Mullins cited for a mepivocaine overage-- mepivocaine the supposedly \"harmless\"
med which has lead to recent suspensions of Pletcher, Asmussen, Lake, O\'Neil
and others.
I read a newspaper article which said that Vladimir Syringe has 1 medication
violation for every 152 or so starters... that\'s quite a record. Take a bow,
Vlado. Right behind Vlado were Jack Carava with 1 positive every 155 starts
and Jeff Mullins, 1 positive every 182 starts. Mullins was asked to comment for
the article and said: \"I aint talking about it. If you want to hear about it,
talk to my attorney.\" (Sign on San Diego.com, San Diego Union Tribune, July 16,
2007).
But there is good news: The Breeders Cup will be held for the next 2 years in
a state which has an absolutely awful record with regard to medication
violations. Yes I know there is someone named Rick Arthur who is working very
hard at fixing what\'s broken, but do not forget that a few years ago Cal
stewards and the CHRB were cutting back door deals with violators. And there
was the awful instance of a stakes class filly being moved onto and off of the
backstretch under an assumed name in the middle of the night in order that she
might be treated away from prying eyes.
Syringe, Doug O\'Needle and Jeff (\"all horseplayers are a--holes\") Mullins. If
California really cared about cleaning the game up, these high profile repeat
offenders would have their stall allocations reduced after each offense. If
Racing ever wants to be free of drugs, PUNISH offenders and BANISH repeat
offenders.
