Had to be exhaustion and a very bad step. I still haven\'t seen a replay. I don\'t think i want to.

It happened when she was pulling up. NBC showed a shot from the blimp were it showed the missteps.

\"Missteps\" are usually not a cause.  The \"misstep\" you see is the first step after the injury has already occurred.

This was a terrible loss of what was apparently a very special filly.

Aside from the loss, one of the other bad parts about this is that our beloved sport and tragic breakdowns always seem to get together on racing\'s biggest days in front of racing\'s biggest audiences. It doesn\'t help.

It\'s difficult to reconcile such a tragic and sad ending to a top shelf filly and champion horse like Eight Belles . My deepest heart felt sympathies to the Jones family , connections and Eight Belles fans ...

Completely agree. Met him at the Breeders Cup draw last year, and was very impressed by his willingness to mingle with the crowds.  Definitely spent more time talking to me than he needed to.
