I\'m surprised nobody has commented much about the weekend Garrett Gomez had.  I mean, is there any question that this guy is the best rider in the country right now?  I know he gets great mounts, but he won both million dollar races by such a small margin that it really was the ride that made the difference in both cases..and he did it on two different tracks where you need to ride differently.  I love betting this guy..he tries hard every time.

Sometimes trainer intent can be analyzed by which jockey they use.

It helps when your rivals are Albarado and Aaron Gryder, both formerly employed by White Star Lines as anchors.

Thats good, but I won\'t change my play because lets say.....Jean Luc Samyn ended up on what I thought was best play or value play. Jockies mean more at low level tracks than on the  major circuits. It\'s a very small factor in how I play the race.

I doubt that Horse on Saturday pays $188 if lets say Gomez ended up on that runner.

Gomez had a great weekend, but Alan Garcia had one of the great days of all time Saturday at the Spa.  Long and short, dirt and turf.  Just ridiculous.

Gomez was on this one and it was every bit as a bad beat as Mambo was. Perhaps even worse because it did appear Gomez put away his whip late.

Albarado just should not have celebrated because it looks like he is saying I hope I got it

This stuff happens to these guys. I saw Jerry Bailey ease up a little on Educated Risk in the Rampart at GP and get run down late. So much so that the younger Phipps (Dinny) had to tell the dad (Ogden) to sit back down as he got up to go to the winners circle because with a 100 yards to go the mare was an open daylight lock.

In the paddock before the next race Bailey was still shaking his head and beating himself up. I beat if you asked him now he still remembers that particular beat.

Sounds like the horse should have been named \"Stupid Mistake\" rather than \"Educated Risk\" -- I wonder if that name has ever been used for a horse.  I sort of like it. Do you need to be a registered owner to reserve a horse name?

Never said it was a major factor. But there are jock/trainer cobinations that are solid. When a move is made, its foolish not to take notice.

Debatable.  But again, thats not the point. Its real simple Tony.  A trainer employing a certain jockey can often times signal intent. That was the only point of the post. Thats it. If you think that a horse getting a new jockey that hits at a 38% win rate for the trainer means nothing....then please play in my pools. Its guys that ignore these moves that helps inflate the price.

Hi Paul,


How about if that 38% trainer/jock combo is running a confirmed slow rat? I agree with Tony, it\'s the horse first all else second. Don\'t you have the highest regard for how fast a horse is or how fast you feel he will run today as opposed to the trainer/jock combo?
