Munnings

What do you all think of this one?  
Obviously has a good amount of ability, but I have a feeling he\'ll be a large underlay as he seems to be a \"wiseguy\" horse.  His numbers are fast, but he got beat by a horse who I think is somewhat suspect in Vineyard Haven, and he\'ll be going 2 turns(he\'s by Champ Sprinter Speightstown) as well as running on synthetic for the first time.  
He seems like a \"sucker\" horse, and I just think 4/1 or 5/1 is too short to take on him.

I like Midshipman, and the Ballydoyle horse Bushranger (who I know is routing and trying synth for the first time, but I\'m quite sure he\'ll be greater odds than Munnings).

Midshipman will be the wise-guy horse. Gomez up, and a nice race over the p-r, getting beat by a horse with a rail trip. I have Midshipman right on top, but it wouldn\'t surprise me if he winds up the favorite or close 2nd choice (with a decent draw).

as for Munnings, that is an outstanding female family. I don\'t doubt that this can be a very good mile to 9f horse. as you say though, need to be compensated for the surface risk. I\'ll probably be against him in this spot.

well, the edge we had with Midshipman was the good figure off the wide trip last. that edge may have just disappeared with the draw and post 11.

the two colts out of the Kee race drew wonderfully. both are coming back on three weeks though, and Square Eddie is coming off a big new top.

Munnings has excellent tactical speed, and should have no problem with post 1.

imo, the draw leaves this one wide open.

back to the drawing board.

I know, the draw was dreadful for some horses, including Whatsthescript who I took quite a shine to in the Mile and is now out in the parking lot.

Maybe Gomez tucks in right after the break and we get covered up and make our run at the end, but that may be wishful thinking...

What about somewhat speedy but slowish Ninth Client who draws the rail in the Juvenile Turf.  I think he\'s pretty much lone speed in that race, and did show some guts in his last two and might be dangerous at a giant price if gets courageous on the lead.

ahh, horse racing...the never ending puzzle.

Just my two cents but I would toss Munnings.  He\'s a nice horse...but he fired his shot in his last race.  I would be shocked if he didn\'t back up off that effort.  

With the 2yos I\'m looking for one that hasn\'t \"popped\" yet.  That\'s not Munnings...  Tough call on this race.  Jury still out for me.  Two that have the pattern I like are West Side Bernie and Silent Valor (I have not seen the draw).  They\'ve both paired up very good races and may be sitting on the big one.  

If you look at Munnings\' pattern, that\'s what may happen with one of these two Saturday (the big race pops up after the pair).

I agree that West Side Bernie looks interesting but Silent Valor looked terrible in his breeze with Munnings over the weekend.  He was asked for some run by the rider and still didn\'t keep up with Munnings who was never asked at all.  I think he\'s a toss based on that work.
