Alan mentioned at the seminar on Saturday than anytime you like a longshot play on the sheets for a race, even if that doesn\'t hit the first time you play it, keep him on the radar because he could hit next time and you kick yourself if you don\'t play it. Sometimes whatever you liked just takes another race to manifest itself.
That has me thinking about the Cougar Handicap at Del Mar tonight.
I highlighted Richard\'s Kid as a sheets play for the Eddie Read and that wound up being a terrible call as he got whooped by that crowd.
However, in looking at the sheets for today\'s race, he ran a number in the Eddie Read that makes him very competitive with this bunch and he gets weight.
The surface is unknown again but he runs numbers on the dirt and his number on the turf was good so I think we can safely assume he can run on the del mar plastic.
He\'s coming back quick for this but he was off a bit of a layoff in the last and he has a history of pairing good efforts back quick last year so I am ok with that issue.
If he\'s 10-1 or more, I think he\'s worth a stab.
