It looked like she got there. Turning for home some people were serious squirming however.

LOL!   i had $4000 on the show lol  easy money!  those were slooooow fractions and i think that the race was deceiving with her effort.. that last 1/8 clocked around 11 seconds and she came from lengths behind

that seems like a bad bet per my perspective...why risk $4K for 5 cents on the dollar?  Explain further....I\'ve never understood the show wager on big favs...

In my opinion it\'s about as bad a bet as you can possibly make in racing.  Have to be right 20/20 just to break even.  Not very likely in my opinion.

But to each their own.

You do realize that if you do this 21 times you have to hit 20 to break even, right?

yes i understand completely.. but thats also assuming that i would get a return of %5 each time.  there are plenty of opportunities that allow me to get a horse that completely overlays a field on paper and still give me %20-30 or more back.. there are also tracks that pay $2.20 to show minimum.

Plus, the numbers change if you are getting a rebate on your show bet.

i dont normally do a $4000 show wager..  only on something that sticks out so much.  something crazy would have to happen in order for a horse like that not to show in a race so its easy money..  5 hits is $1000 profit and nothing is guaranteed buuuut it kinda sorta sometimes is  =)

Good point liberty, with a 2 % show rebate and a 5 % roi on investment you only have to hit 28 out of 30 to break even at $ 1,000.00 per bet.

We go from endless discussions on R vs Z on this site to many clamouring for handicapping discussions ? Now were talking about show betting ?

From my point of view show betting is for old ladies who bet $ 2.00 on the gray horse to the rocket scientists who \" borrow money from their company over the weekend on sure things \" only to end up in jail on Monday !

Come on guy\'s show betting ???

Addendum:

Some houses will rebate 3% WPS, almost all will not rebate $2.10 or $ 2.20 show prices at all !!!
