Spangled Star
« on: June 03, 2010, 07:04:57 PM »
Call me crazy, but I am throwing Spangled Star into my exotics because of the low dosage, CD, and highest Tomlinson of all the starters for the distance.

I also read where--I think it was a trainer, said that the Belmont, counterintuitively, is about speed. Anyone else read that and want to help me \"get\" this, shy of watching Da Tara win again? I can understand how if th pace is too slow, a pacesetter could last, but beyond that, I would like to hear what some of this group have to say about that remark.

Thanks,

Leamas.

Leamas:

I think that is a statement which has also been stated in an opposite manner--
that the late move from well back is rarely successful in this race.

Thanks, you guys. I wonder if part of that is the smaller fields (of the TC) or the track itself: one lap, sweeping turns...

Maybe this is a time-frame thing.

While it\'s true that we\'ve had our DaTara\'s and Commendable\'s winning on the front end in recent years, if we look further back we see our High Echelon\'s and Amberoid\'s coming from way out of it.

Star Spangled looks like a very interesting loser to me.  I think putting him in exotics makes the most sense, but don\'t waste a spot on top of the ticket.  Too many people have come to think that speed is important here and it\'s my guess this horse will have company early in the race.

Look for a closer this year.

I think your unconscious is trying to tell you something, here.

Sorry, wasn\'t trying to be the \"typo\" police, but, that one was just sitting there on the tee.

Nah, that\'s alright.  No harm.  I\'m mainly interested in the trainer with this one, not the horse or its name.  It\'s obvious he has little respect for the field and can see taking a shot at a payday for this horse, even if it finishes off the board.  My point is still that this is possibly a year for a deep closer.

I have yet to learn exactly how the Tomlinson is made, but it includes the dam side I know. That\'s a very high Tomlinson for this distance and while this race may not be best application for a such a figure, it suggests that this guy can go a longgg way.
