Yes -- during the stretch call, when Dooley says \"...now, \'Rondo Mondo\' \"is being produced!\"...it does NOT mean that a baby named \'Rondo Mondo\' is being foaled during the race; it means that (already in existence) horse \'Rondo Mondo\' is making a move.

I listen intently to the live race call; you have no idea how alarmed I was the first time I thought I was going to see a foal drop at the finish line.

The phrase \"making a move\" is too much to the point to be useful in a live race call, I guess. Dooley injects other weirdness into his race calls; don\'t let it throw you.

If anybody has a copy of \"This Was Racing\" by Joe Palmer, there is a wonderful column starting on p.159 about a mare foaling during a race.  It is entitled \"Saratoga, or The Horse At Home.  Grew up reading the book over and over.

I\'ll give you a couple of eating tips close to the track that are must do if you like to eat as much as I do.  Liuzza\'s by the Track. Get the BBQ Shrimp Po Boy. Don\'t stray to other items.  And the Parkway Bakery and Tavern. Get the surf and turf poboy. It is fried shrimp and roast beef. Sounds iffy but give it a shot. Anything is good at the Parkway and the place is a cool joint. Those are two can\'t miss places. Good Luck. I think I\'ll be there for the race as well but I have no good FG info. Tough place to win. You can eat in a million places there, but know that the locals stand on line for an hour to get into Galatoire\'s in the Quarter.  There are no reservations.  It\'s worth it.

As for the track, when deciding between 2 horses in a race, take the one ridden by someone in the local jockey colony.  They don\'t take kindly to interlopers.

Try Bozos in Metarie for the crawfish boil. Tons of racing people there at the bar. My favorite is Brigtsen\'s and Mr. Johns is a close second.

I am planning to attend as well.  I usually come down each race to see horses in the paddock and talk to trainers and jockeys.  feel free to shoot me an email and I\'ll give you my cell phone number.
If you like Italian food Impostato\'s is in the area and great!
Don\'t wait to buy sheets at the track.  they often don\'t have them and when they do they sell them in the racing office.  you will have to wait 20 minutes minimum
