Does slow internal pace make the final figures better?

Im handicapping some Philly Park for tomorrow and looking at the 8th race, i notice that the 7 horse has a 58 Beyer fig and the 10 horse has a 51 fig. Both horses ran on Feb 6th at 6.5 Furlongs. The horse with the 58 fig ran a 119.2 and the horse with the 51 fig ran a 119.

I was under the assumption that Beyer figs just give you the number for the final time, but looking at these numbers, it seems that Beyer is giving the 7 horse a higher number because that horse had a slower internal pace?

Does Thorograph punish a horse who ran a faster internal pace? It seems like that\'s what Beyer is doing here in this instance.

As you state, Beyer is usually the final raw time adjusted for track speed. In the case you cite, if correct, they may have had the track changing speeds and adjusted for it so the 119.2 became \"faster\" than the 119 flat, fig wise. Internals have little to do with fig maker adjustments except when a pace in very skewed to the slow side.

Every so often fig makers toss the raw time when it doesn\'t fit/reconcile for all the horses in comparative races at comparative distances(see Juvie turf vs BC turf mile in 2011) Doubt theses slugs you cite were worthy of such an adjustment.

MIff, i didnt realize Beyer was so \'sophisticated\' as to spend time worrying about track speed. This might have just been a situation where they tossed the raw time to make it fit and just assumed that the track speed must have changed.
